AUSTRALIAN PARATROOPERS

Military parachute training began during the Second World War. Today, the Basic Parachute Course is conducted over a three week period and focuses on basic military static line techniques. Students are required to complete eight jumps including a night drop.

Specialized parachuting is also conducted. For example, 4RAR (Commando) are highly trained Special Forces soldiers proficient in parachuting.

Joint operations are routinely conducted, such as that with the US Army's famous 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Battalion and the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, Australia's own parachute battalion.
