Paratroopers of Chile

School of Parachutists
and Special Forces

In 1962 the first Commando Course for the Army of Chile was conducted in the School of Infantry with 19 students and 6 instructors. Ranger and Special Forces personnel of the U.S. Army acted as advisors. The following year a second course was conducted with 37 students and 10 instructors.

In 1964, a parachute unit was created, and in August of 1965 the Battalion of Parachutists made their first mass jump from C-47 aircraft. At the present time, the School has the responsibility of also providing instruction for Jumpmasters, Parachute Riggers, HALO, freefall and other specialized combat jump techniques.

Since the first made jump on August 20 1965, to July of 1996, more than 160,000 jumps have been made by instructors and students of the School of Parachutists and Special Forces without the loss of human life.

Training of foreign military personnel is also provided by the school. In addition, school personnel travel abroad to conduct airborne and special forces training to foreign military personnel.
