As early as 1941, military parachute training was conducted in India and later, during the 1965 Indo-Pak War, the Parachute Regiment formed a permanent commando unit, which was designated the 9th Battalion. Indian Army’s 4th Parachute (Para) Battalion, 50th Independent Para Brigade participated with U.S. special operations forces in Exercise BALANCE IROQUOIS 2002 at India’s Army Airborne Training School at Air Station Agra, India in 2002. Indian Air Force aircraft also participated.
