The date 17 October 1953 is reported when the first Spanish parachute unit was formed, with 8 officers, 12 non-commissioned officers y 149 soldiers starting training to form the I Bandera Paracaidista "Roger de Flor" (a bandera is more or less the size of a battalion). First jump was made on 23 February 1954. Training ended on 16 March. In January 1956 was created the Agrupación de Banderas Paracaidistas and started the formation of the II Bandera Paracaidista "Roger de Lauria".
